CUPERTINO, California / ConSynSer / – Apple introduced a new MacBook Pro with a PROLED XDR display based on tandem OLED technology, along with touch support on a Mac for the first time. The laptop comes in 14-inch and 16-inch models powered by M5 Pro and M5 Max chips. Apple said the display reaches up to 2000 nits of peak HDR and SDR brightness and a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio. Pre-orders opened on October 28, with availability beginning on Friday, November 6.

The display supports a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz and a wide colour gamut covering both P3 and Adobe RGB. Apple said the panel offers more than 80% coverage of Rec. 2020 for HDR video editing and colour grading. Every panel is calibrated at the factory, and a nano-texture option etched into the cover glass further reduces glare. Apple also added DICOM reference modes for reviewing medical images for nondiagnostic purposes.

“The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is a monumental step forward for the Mac,” said Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer. He said the display pairs tandem OLED technology with advanced algorithms in Apple’s display engine. The engine controls the colour and brightness of each pixel at the sub-millisecond level. It also adapts to content, temperature and pixel use over time to preserve image quality.

Touch and Dynamic Island arrive on Mac

For the first time, MacBook Pro supports Touch, with the sensor built directly into the display panel to reduce latency. Users can scroll, pinch to zoom, drag and drop content and tile windows with their fingers. Apple said designers can use the whole display as a canvas, while musicians can play software instruments on screen. A newly designed hinge provides greater stability while the display is being touched.

The Dynamic Island also comes to the Mac, serving as the home for Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI. Apps from Microsoft, Adobe, Zoom, Canva, Blender and others will support Touch, according to Apple. Many existing apps work immediately because macOS translates touches into clicks. The laptops run macOS 27, which brings Siri AI and expanded Apple Intelligence features.

Lighter design and up to 24 hours of battery

The 14-inch model now weighs 3 pounds, half a pound less than before, while the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds, 0.7 pounds lighter. Both are thinner, and battery life reaches up to 24 hours. The M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, which Apple first introduced in March, support up to 128GB of unified memory, and storage now goes up to 16TB. Connectivity includes three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe, Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.

In the US, the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 Pro starts at $2,899 and the 16-inch model at $3,399. M5 Max versions start at $4,499 and $4,799, respectively. Apple said the display delivers a consistent visual experience when paired with the iPhone 18 Pro or Studio Display XDR. The laptop is made with 55% recycled content, including 100% recycled aluminium in the enclosure.
