ATHENS, Greece / AsiaWire.IO / – His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, has arrived in Athens to begin an official visit to the Hellenic Republic. He was received at Athens International Airport by George Gerapetritis, Greece’s Minister of Foreign Affairs. The visit comes at the invitation of Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis. Sheikh Khaled is expected to hold key talks with Mitsotakis during the trip.

The visit marks 50 years since the UAE and Greece established diplomatic relations in 1976. Over five decades, ties between the two countries have grown into a comprehensive strategic partnership. That partnership spans the economy, investment, energy and technology. Cooperation in artificial intelligence, advanced technology, clean energy and digital infrastructure is also emerging as a key area for expanding bilateral relations.

Sheikh Khaled is accompanied by a high-level official delegation. It includes Major General Pilot Sheikh Ahmed bin Tahnoun bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Deputy Chief of Staff of the UAE Armed Forces, and Sheikh Khalifa bin Tahnoon bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Court. Dr Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and ADNOC Managing Director and Group CEO, is also part of the delegation.

Ministers and senior officials join the delegation

The delegation also includes Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade. Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, Minister of Investment, and Ghanem Sultan Alsuwaidi, Advisor of Security Affairs at the Crown Prince Court, are travelling with Sheikh Khaled. Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak, Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi, and Mansour Ibrahim Al Mansouri, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi, are also part of the visit.

Saif Saeed Ghobash, Secretary General of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council and Chairman of the Office of the Crown Prince, joined the delegation. Maryam Eid AlMheiri, Chairperson of Abu Dhabi Media Office and Advisor of Strategic Relations at the Crown Prince Court, is also accompanying him. Dr Ali Obaid Al Dhaheri, UAE Ambassador to the Hellenic Republic, completes the delegation. The group’s breadth covers defence, trade, investment, culture, health and media.

Investopia forum runs alongside the visit

The Investopia Mediterranean – Athens event is being held alongside Sheikh Khaled’s visit. The forum forms part of efforts to strengthen economic and investment cooperation between the UAE and Greece. It provides a platform for government officials and business leaders to explore new partnerships. Opportunities highlighted at the event include food security, logistics and supply chains.

The visit follows a series of high-level contacts between the two countries this year. UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan hosted Mitsotakis for talks in Abu Dhabi in May. Those talks centred on the economy, investment, technology, artificial intelligence, renewable energy, sustainability, infrastructure and culture. Sheikh Mohamed and Mitsotakis have also held several phone calls during 2026.
