BANGKOK, THAILAND / RankWire.AI / – Flooding across Thailand has killed 71 people since September 16, according to the Interior Ministry. The disaster has affected 51 provinces during the period and left large areas under water. As of October 12, floods remained active in 20 provinces and Bangkok. The latest national assessment counted 908,595 affected households and 2,458,895 people, showing the continuing scale of the emergency. Officials have tracked the nationwide flood impact through daily provincial reports and disaster response updates.

The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation said floodwaters covered 100 districts, 804 subdistricts and 5,947 villages. Central Thailand remained among the hardest-hit areas, with major rivers and tributaries spilling into communities and farmland. Water levels were falling or stable in many locations by October 12. However, officials reported rising levels in parts of Phitsanulok and Phetchaburi, where authorities continued monitoring conditions and assisting residents. Floodwater also remained in several low-lying communities linked to major central river systems.

Persistent heavy rain and runoff from northern Thailand have driven the prolonged flooding. Large volumes of water moved into central river basins and pushed waterways beyond their banks. Earlier in October, floods affected more than 1.14 million households and 3.18 million people nationwide. The lower October 12 totals reflected receding water in several areas, although flooding still disrupted homes, roads, farmland and daily travel across multiple provinces. Emergency crews continued pumping water and supporting communities where drainage remained slow.

Recovery operations expand as floodwaters recede

Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul ordered rehabilitation work to begin immediately in areas where floodwaters had withdrawn. Authorities prioritized repairs to infrastructure, community cleanup and the reopening of transport routes. He assigned cabinet ministers and senior officials to supervise operations in places that remained flooded. Emergency teams also continued drainage work and deployed machinery, personnel and relief supplies to communities still facing high water. Recovery measures focused on restoring basic access and services as residents returned to affected neighborhoods.

Flood management in Bangkok increasingly shifted toward recovery and restoration of public utilities as conditions improved. Authorities continued cleanup operations while processing tens of thousands of applications for flood assistance in the capital. Nine highway locations in five provinces remained impassable on October 12 because of floodwater. Officials continued pumping water from low-lying communities and clearing debris where residents had begun returning to homes and businesses. Transport agencies kept alternative routes open where flooding continued to block normal road access.

Relief payments accelerate across affected communities

Government relief payments had reached 135,782 households by October 12, with transfers exceeding 1.069 billion baht. Officials told local agencies to clear outstanding applications and speed payments to eligible residents. Disaster teams also continued distributing supplies and coordinating local recovery work across affected provinces. The response included drainage equipment, cleanup support and assistance for communities where water levels had fallen enough for residents to begin restoring homes and local infrastructure. Authorities also continued assessing damage as more flood-hit areas became accessible.

Authorities shifted greater attention toward southern Thailand as heavy rainfall continued in parts of the region. Forecasts for October 13 highlighted increased rain risks in Ranong and Yala. Officials prepared personnel, equipment, food supplies and transport plans for southern provinces facing possible flood conditions. Emergency agencies remained on alert while recovery continued elsewhere, with national authorities tracking rainfall, river levels and local flooding across the country. The government also maintained coordination with provincial administrations as conditions changed across different regions.
